References: Freeman 388; SCBI 21 (Yorkshire) 483, same dies; North 828; SCBC 1182; BMC xia; Hild. G variety.
This attractive Hammer Cross penny was struck at the York mint under the Viking moneyer Thorr. The design reflects the transitional art of Edward’s later coinage, combining regal imagery with Christian symbolism. Well-centered on a full flan with a clear bust, legible legends, and excellent detail for the type. A representative and historically significant piece from the reign of the last Anglo-Saxon king of England before the Norman Conquest.
